Reference and import file attachments

To import or refer to a file attachment start a new line in Word and type “/file:” followed by the file description or path / directory location (note: this could be the url for the file if you’ve already uploaded it to the web).

When you import your Word document you will be prompted to manually locate and upload each file referred to using the “/file:” convention.

Warning: Anything you write on the same line of text as “/file:” will not be shown to the reader, it will only be used to prompt you to upload the file when you import the content. You should describe or introduce the file for the reader on a separate line.

Any files you upload having used the “/file:” convention will then be presented as embedded and downloadable files.

You can upload most common file types to WordPress (note: we also allow some users to upload .svg files).
